How to tighten Manfrotto Magic Arms tension?

5 months 2 weeks ago #668783 by Roy Wilson
Can these things be tightened?  I have tried to tighten up the hex bolts at the elbow with no luck.  Seems like you would expect these to be able to be tightened.  Can they?

I would expect one could tighten the arm. Why not go to the source and ask Manfrotto via email?

Why so serious?

I did, no response back from them yet.

Hope they do get back with me.

Hey Roy, try this:

1, take apart the whole joint assembly making sure to remember
the order of all parts.

2, make sure that no oil or contaminant got in-between except on
the bearings and their groove

3, control that all bearings are there and whole — the groove should
be loosely filled clean and very lightly greased.

4, rebuilt and enjoy.

I experienced a broken bearing that made a unit unusable.

I have one in front of me know.  Unless you have the correct tools, I would just send this off to Manfrotto for repair.

I had my husband try to tighten mine earlier this year, and it made it worse!  He tightened it too.
