How heavy is your camera bag when taking on a trip?

Heading off to see family on the other coast for the holiday and packing my bag.  I'm curious for those of you that travel, how much does your bag weigh?

I'm going to go through everything again in the morning and see about reducing the weight.

I'll guess my best gear bag is about twelve pounds.....

Why so serious?

There are two bodies and 8 lenses in my bag. Not to
mention a flash and you know, plenty of small stuff. I
am so excited when ever I have to leave for somewhe-
re that I don't think of making it any lighter. :P

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I have never weighed my setup.  But when I travel, it's a scaled down bag.  I have one body with me, and usually one lens on the camera and one or two additional lenses.  Depending on where I'm going, I'll have one flash.  Other than that, just 4 spare batteries.

Damn, good question, I would estimate upwards of 20lbs.  I have a lot of gear in there.  It's a roller so I'm not having to carry it.  But there are 8 lenses in that thing and 2 camera bodies.  It has some weight to it!

G'day Sandy

May I offer you two comments ...
a) back in film camera days my kit was similar to NS's ... two camera cases plus lenses plus flashguns and so on, until I retired and downsized heaps of stuff. Travelling for months at a time in a motorhome caused a dramatic downsizing, and when I went digital back in 2003 I also dumped all the SLR bodies and lenses and went for a superzoom system - and have never regretted it. The motorhome's locked secure storage for laptop and camera is about 1-foot cubed, and so there is not much space for the 1001 bits of stuff I used to carry around all the time

b) =if= and when you travel overseas or in the outback via small aircraft to a tourist location, you will find that your TOTAL carry on weight is limited to 15kg. This forces you to seriously reconsider what you are going to take with you :(

Probably less than a pound. They gain weight as you fill them with gear.

Why so serious?

I don't see a reason to have a heavy camera bag.  Most, will not need everything they own in their bags.  Think about what is needed on each shoot and head out with what is needed.  Why carry more than you need?

Guessing 15lbs.  Guess only.  I have not weighed my bag and I'm thinking it will have to do on the day.

G'day all

Yesterday was chatting to a woman about to do a 16-day aero tour of Australia's Kimberly / Pilbara area in a 12-seater plane ... all 5-star stuff and well out of my price range  :(

Each passenger was 'advised' to bring several changes of clothes incl formal wear for evening meals, along with hiking boots and other clobber for outdoors activities

However each passenger was restricted to a total baggage weight of 16kg .... about 35lbs for those who still use pounds
