How long before camera manufactures stop making DSLRs?

4 years 4 months ago #670566 by Patty Ganahl
I just watched some YouTube video's on rumored cameras.  One was from this site.  This has me curious on the future of DSLRs.  Mirrorless cameras have a strong foundation, and while I see some still teasing with upcoming DSLR models, how long will this last.  Think 1 or 2 more models before the ax DSLRs completely?

In my book, that would be a shame… a terrible shame!

Oh man that was good.

I don't think we'll see them disappearing in the next 5 years.   Who knows except the manufactures.

Look at how long they continued to make records.  DSLRs will continue to be made for a LONG time.

G'day Patty

Much has been said + rumoured + mis-quoted on this topic in recent years

Look back to DP Review.com for an interview last year with the CEO of Canon Japan where he was asked this question ... his response was along the lines of "consumer-level cameras will probably all be mirrorless within a few years, but our top-level cameras, especially those used by sports photographers for events like the olympics will all remain "legacy" cameras with a full mirror mechanism and compatibility with all current lenses."

"Vinyl records earned $224.1 million (on 8.6 million units) in the first half of 2019, closing in on the $247.9 million (on 18.6 million units) generated by CD salesVinyl revenue grew by 12.8% in the second half of 2018 and 12.9% in the first six months of 2019, while the revenue from CDs barely budged....
