How far do you drive for real estate photo shoots?

I've been working on my 2020 plans, how far do you drive for your real estate photo gigs?  I have been thinking about expanding my reach up to 75 miles.

How far do you drive?

That's question of time and compensation. If the gig is worthwhile (considering all the time required to drive to and from) then go. Right?

75 miles means (implies) an hour drive each way. Do you get paid enough for a gig to make that work?

Well that's what I'm working on.  If it's a single job, then there are 2 hours chewed up at least in driving.  However if I can batch schedule gigs when longer distances away.  Then that might work.

Calculate the fee for the working hour
and add the travel expenses — fuel, tool,
stops, meals, etc. and keep all receipts.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

When I was a commercial shooter I billed time, materials and expenses.  The distance was immaterial since it was paid by the client.  It was common for me to fly to shoot locations so the expense part of the invoice could be substantial.  Cover yourself with an estimate of total cost to the client.

I shoot about 1200 homes a year, and I will drive up to about 50 miles, depending on my schedulers (my wife's) decisions - am I in the area, how much business will I lose during drive time, etc.

I put about 30k miles on my car per year.

Way to go!  I have a friend who shoots homes for a living and I thought his ~700 was a lot!
