Why are pixels shaped as squares?

4 years 3 months ago #672778 by F Anderson
I was messing around in Photoshop and if I zoom in as far as I can, I see pixels.  All these dots are the exact pixels from the cameras sensor right? Why aren't these circles?  Honestly if these are pixels, then I'm surprised as I thought they would have been round.

My guess is you can't totally fill a sensor area with circles, but you can with squares. Why buck success though?

Why so serious?

Analog pixels are round, it's the digital ones that are square

This.

And because there's no point in drawing tiny, tiny circles. Squares are fast.

Correct.

Squares are the consequent shape of a surface division and
still have no space loss between pixels.

Light is free… capturing it is not!
