More reason that some people really need to go in a tour environment when exploring places like this  www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-51152831

RIP, what a shame.  Sad to hear stories like this.  Some of these remote areas can have a turn of weather just like that, and 9 out of 10 tourist don't know much about survival skills.

Have you paid attention to tourist from other areas of the world?  Some of them are seriously so clueless, these are the ones you keep hearing that fell off cliffs from taking selfies for their instagram pages.  I mean no disrespect, but some people just have no business at may of these locations.

G'day all

Ken - yes we get 'em Downunder as well .... all striving to receive a Darwin Award

Also - although Oz is regarded internationally as one of the safest countries in the world to live & visit, every year we send several dozen tourists home "in the cargo hold" following car crashes in the outback

They come to grief while trying to overtake one of our Road Trains - an 84-wheeler, 50metre / 165 foot long jugganaut doing 110km/h and they need the best part of a mile on a 2-lane outback highway to do it safely - when something else comes towards them leaving them with nowhere to go

Sad, what a shame.  Pity considering this could have been avoided with a little more planning.

Yuppers. Anyway, a couple years ago two young women came up here (White Mountains, New Hampshire) in late October, if memory serves and decided to take a stroll up Mt Washington, if not the deadliest mountain in the nation, one of them. It was nice and sunny at the trail head and they set out. They had to be rescued ten hours  later at about four thousand feet in Tuckerman ravine, the clouds rolled in, it began snowing the temps plunged to near zero. They were both wearing light sweatshirts and flip flops. Sometimes Darwinism doesn't cover it.

Agree, just a tad common sense needs to be exercised.  Be mindful of where you are at, time of year and be prepared with proper clothing and at least basic survival kit.

Why weren't these people in a tour with others?  I think someone people just shouldn't be allowed to roam around on their own.

Probable language barriers, unfamiliarities with terrain and weather, under geared, possibly no motel/hotel reservations, etc. Iceland is remote and the cold can catch you fast. Anyway, I wouldn't visit any place in a tour, I like liberty.

Yes I agree, but I don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone, but some of those overseas tourist are absolutely clueless.  Just calling it as it is.  These people need to be tied together when on these tours.
