Portrait lighting tips to make someone look thinner?

1 month 2 days ago #673449 by Cathy Kadolph
Hi,

Lately I have had a number of larger people, and nearly each one has made a comment about their weight, and how much heavier they look when photographed.

Are there any lighting tricks to use that will create a thinner look?

Thank you for your help!

Most of them are probably used to cell phone images (short focal length) that distort the body, or foreshortening that occurs in mirrors.

So: what focal length are you using? A shorter one might create distortion that they like.

That said, what gender?

Look for advice on posing tips, camera angles, etc. Not just lighting. It can help, but there are more options available.

The two lenses I use the most are 24-70mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.8.  Actually it's been kind of a mix both male and females.  If it makes any difference I'm shooting with a D800.  Which reminds me, I need to update my camera here.  Still shows my old D300!

BTW thank you!
