Everybody started charging tax on Jan 1. Federal law. Not optional any longer.

I wonder if Adorama will follow steps of B&H with some sort of tax pay it program?

Yup, Jan 1...but ONLY to people in tax paying states.

Why so serious?

Adorama has had a similar "pay it off" program for years....(not tax though)

Good old days of no tax are gone.  :(  Bummer, but it is what it is.

Which states don't collect sales tax?

Mine doesn't, New Hampshire. There are a few others, Alaska, Delaware, Montana, and Oregon...methinks.

There's a google for that.

Alaska and others allow local taxing authorities. So you can get, e.g., a city tax in places.

Pick up that Payboo card from B&H and just pay it off before 30 days to get enough back to offset the tax.

I don't find it that surprising; seems more surprising that they didn't start doing this sooner. Brick and mortar stores, catalogs, all had to charge sales tax, so it was probably just a matter of time til online businesses now have to do the same. Seems fair to me and probably didn't help local camera stores that had to charge tax and online photo sellers didn't.
