Looking for creative ideas

Looking for creative ideas for photographing a group of 12 3rd grade students (no teachers). It must be a vertical composition. All I've come up with so far is using a ladder. Anyone have other suggestions?

My wife teaches second grade, and every year she shoots (pics) of the kids and just has them stand there and smile. She uses her phone camera and I process and print them. They always turn out great!
Don't complicate it.

Why so serious?

I agree, keep it simple. I doubt I'd bother to get a ladder for a group that size. You could just do two rows with shorter kids in the front, taller in back. Or I guess maybe three rows with the front row seated on the floor, maybe the middle row kneeling?

However you have them line up, check and make sure you can see every one of those 12 little faces before taking pictures. You could maybe do more than one grouping if there's time.

Think about the background, go early and figure out where to set up, make sure trash cans and other visually distracting objects are moved out of view. If you're in a gym make sure lines and signs are straight or out of view.

Ummm, thanks for the responses, but that's really not what I was asking. I have been a professional school photographer for 25 years. I specifically need ideas for something CREATIVE and VERTICAL.
