Have you tried selling prints at flea market or swap meet?

Any success?  We have a couple out there and their rates are half bad.  Just wondering if photographers have had success selling  at these sort of venues?

This is something my wife keeps telling me to do. But I have a hard time setting a price for my images. It's really a hit or miss. Ones best bet would be to showcase your images within a gallery or art exhibit throughout the year. Again, if you want to sell your art, you'll have to put money into it and I'm just not willing to travel from exhibit to exhibit over a 6-8 month time frame. One would end up like those gem & jewelry shows and not make enough money to even call it worth it.

Alternatively, I've place a few works on artwanted & foundmyself.com but again because i'm not willing to link my bank account information to these sites, I've not made any money. Never enter these types of sites or shows thinking you're going to make money, or you'll end up starving.

Years ago I offered prints of local landmarks/landscapes, framed and not, etc. at a couple southern California swap meets. I sold many more custom tee shirts. MANY more.

Depends on the swap meet, we have one here that is just a big mess and mostly used junk sold at.  I wouldn't sell there, you would likely be in front of the wrong audience.   But if a nice swap meet with other artists.  Yeah, go for it.

A) Join a credit union to minimize your expenses, and
2) Open a separate account, or a business account.

I am confident that the moment any company starts shenanigans with linked bank accounts, you'd hear about it. I think there is little risk, but a separate account would certainly isolate things, don't you think?

That said, I think that working the art show circuit is difficult. Go to some of them and talk to the folks that exhibit there. Many of them are very willing to chat. I was at a high-end show last October and had a grand time talking with a photographer about his life, how he got his shots, how he travels and lives, etc. He was very open.

If you saw our swap meets here, you would appreciate my lack of interest.  Just not my audience for selling prints.

The problem with displaying at a swap meet is most people are there to haggle and get things cheep.  Which will strip your reputation away.

+1 which is why most art you'll find at swap meets just looks cheap.

LOL you haven't lived till you have been to a Southern California swap meet!  Years ago, there was one over in Orange County that was decent at the fair grounds.  You could find a good variety of things including some art.  Now it's just bad, it's like little Mexico and a collection of used rubbish.
