Bad marketing by FUJIFILM with their X100V camera. Offensive or Legit?

I saw this article on FujiRumors that shows this photographers street photography methods and I'm scratching my head wondering how does Fuji even consider this tasteful or even yet, photography?  The guy is just sticking a camera in front of people and hitting the trigger.  That's not photography.

Guy is speaking Chinese in video, won't take you long to see what he is doing.

Not my cup of tea either. I think the Chinese are accustomed to smaller personal space, his style might not play so well in Boston, or NYC, etc........

Why so serious?

Oh, no disagreement. I think it's an invasive, unnecessary, and meaningless strategy. But there are voyeurs out there that seem to like the results.

Fuji has now pulled the ad due to the controversial techniques used.

While I don't agree either with this kind of shooting.  I find it very intrusive.  I will agree that I'm surprised Fuji went along, when you watch that video, it makes the brand look cheep and sleazy.  Just my 2 cents.

Well spotted

I don't have the nerve to be that assertive, which is my weakness, not my virtue.  I like street photography very much, and do practice it more, as I acquire experience with it.  Such close street portraits are not my style, but lots of SP fans do admire that style of SP.  So I would not condemn Fuji for this, they just over estimated how widespread any knowledge of SP is among camera buyers in general.  Not so much bad marketing, as missing the right market, which is a niche.

he was born in Brooklyn . Not everyone in the US has to look like a white middle class knob to be born there.

I'm guessing you've never been in Brooklyn?

I watched that twice and I don't see how what he is doing is photography?  It looks so careless with out thought.  Just being rude and sticking a camera in peoples face.  I would punch this guy if he pulled this on me.

Very nice to meet you!

Not careless at all. Just extremely quick. Speed is often essential in street photography. See "capture the moment".

Not a major issue, however, the photographer is speaking Japanese and not Chinese.

It appears that the photographer is purposefully placing the camera in the subjects' faces for their reaction.  His desire is for them to be surprised or maybe even uncomfortable and thus catching their reactions in the shot.  I would feel uncomfortable for making so many others uncomfortable, I couldn't do his style.
