Buying used camera battery

4 years 2 months ago #675521 by Justin
Is there a way to tell how many times a battery has been charged?  I found someone who is selling 4 used camera batteries and says they have only been charged 5-7 times.  How can I confirm this?

Very nice to meet you!

You can't. Insert one in camera and go to battery in menu, it should tell you the health of that battery, but not number of charges.....

Why so serious?

Crap, ok.  I know with DJI batteries, you can see how many times each battery has been charged.  Was hoping the same here.

Unless it's just a crazy awesome deal.  Batteries are pretty inexpensive these days, I would just buy new.

Nope, no can do.  If batteries are under 50% off, then go for it.  Other wise I would buy new.  Are these manufacture brand batteries?

There is no way to measure the capacity of any given battery
like voltage can be. Voltage may give you an indication of the
actual voltage condition compared to the nominal voltage in
a closed circuit — an open one will be of no help unless it is low.

Buying blindly a used battery is quite risky. What one wants to
buy is capacity and the only way to do it is by charging the unit
and observe the discharge rate with an ampère meter.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

You can charge battery to full, and test to see charge.  But that will not show how many charges.

Batteries are one of those things that I would recommend just buying new.

I second that, just buy batteries new.  Wait if batteries aren't charged correctly from the start that won't that shorten their lifes?   That being the case, just more reason to buy only new.
