Cropping an APS-C vs 1” sensor at full resolution?

4 years 2 months ago #676177 by Frederick Images
Oh man, I hope I can explain what is going on in my head at the moment.  So, if you have a photo that was taken on a APS-C camera and you have done some serious cropping to it.  How can you tell at what point in the crop does a 1" sensor at full size have the better resolution?

See what I'm saying?  When does it not benefit vs the 1" sensor?

There are differing resolutions in full frame sensors. Your question is incomplete methinks.

Why so serious?

Lots of information missing but if you have a specific 1" sensor camera in mind look at its resolution in pixel width and height. Compare that to the pixel dimensions of the cropped image. When the cropped image drops below the 1" pixel dimensions, then you are looking at lower resolution. Saying all that, there is a lot more to it as in how well each camera processes the information it collects. Some are better and more efficient than others so there is no absolute answer to your question without specifics.

I should have clarified, it was random question that  came up because of a little back and forth disagreement a buddy and I are having.  1" sensor reference comes from my drone.  Your answer is exactly what I needed to see.  Thank you!

Well, random doesn't work. It depends upon the pixel density (resolution) of the sensor.
