How to keep tripod plate from spining on camera?

4 years 2 months ago #676962 by Liem Stailey
I'm not even sure the proper name of this thing.  The plate that is screwed to the bottom of my camera that mounts to the ball head.  Anyway, about once or twice a week I need to tighten this thing.  How in the world do you keep yours put?  It's kind of annoying to have to keep tightening it.

Thank you.

I bought a large rubber washer and added it between "L" bracket, or plate and camera. I also probably  tightened it a little past suggested, but it never comes loose.

Why so serious?

Good idea, did you get at Home Depot?

Punch a hole in a piece of duct tape and stick it to the bottom of the camera.  It will also protect the camera from potential scratches from movement.

Won't the duct tape leave residue on the camera?

Yes, or most hardware stores.

My Three Legged Thing Albert includes a rubber pad on the plate.  Just sayin'....

And yes, gaffer's tape, and change it periodically. Or a rubber washer. Short of a better tripod.

If you have an old bike tire inner tube laying around, cut out a 1.5"x1.5" square and put a hole in the center of it.  That should do the trick.

I use a large diameter rubber washer with a 1/4" or so center hole. They are available from a plumbing supply or hardware store, or you can make your own if you have a piece of thin rubber, like an old bycycle inner tube.
