KEH used rates when they are buying?

Have any of you received a quote from KEH, only to send in and get something completely different/less?

What circumstances did they state were the reason?

They sell high and buy low simply, that's how they make "profit". All used sellers do the same down grading on used gear they buy.

Why so serious?

KEH's standards are pretty high so most likely they considered that you over graded the equipment.

The worst situation, for a retailer, is to sit too long on any
given inventory. Like you, they're looking for the best gear
at the best price.

A "like new" gear will be quoted at 50 cents per dollar —
that is a trade rule of thumb — then depreciation kicks in;
30 cents and lower are common.

Older gear—  like collector's items — may well be traded in
a very different way.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Thank you everyone.  Actually I have not sent in anything yet, I was just wondering if that happens, or are they able to give accurate quotes, when given accurate condition of gear.

You don't have to accept the offer. They will ship it back to you. They also hold buying events across the U.S. You could check their site to see if one is near you.

Do they ship it back to you on their dime or yours?

KEH has always been fair to me.  You might want to get a quote from MPB too.

I think Omell meant if they offer less than the original estimate, and you want to decline their offer, who pays the shipping back to gear owner?
(I'll admit I didn't look too hard in that link.)

The answer is there. They pay. Thought they should see it in print instead of taking someone's word for it.
