Can you stack 2 teleconverters?

4 years 1 month ago #677216 by Fitch
Let's say you have a 2x and 1.4x teleconverters, can  you stack them together and get now approximately 3.4x zoom in focal distance?

Making a 200mm equal to 680mm about?

Physically: yes.
Functionally: not sure at all… weird stuff may occur!

Really you mean like AF not working?  There wouldn't be vignetting because of the position of the teleconverter right?

No, AF will work for sure but the sharpness will be
questionable… already is with one TC!

For vignetting I don't have the experience but I guess
that would not be an issue.i

+1 on the sharpness being butchered.  There wouldn't be any vignetting because of the position of the teleconverters.

Another concern is how would the camera system know what
part — lens and converters — to focus first and in which order!

… to achieve what?

Camera doesn't focus the converter, only the lens. The problem would become whether there would be enough light for it to be able to achieve focus. The fact is it's a bad idea and big focal length doesn't come cheap. Stop trying. If it was a viable solution, many people would have already done it.

In my experience cropping the image will produce a sharper image than any teleconverter.  Using two would create a disastrously soft image.  Not a good idea.  Save up for a longer lens and work with cropping before you do something like this.

Not exact, Randy, it did… The only one that did and I
have a perfectly working unit in my hand right now.
