Plugging computer directly into Synology ds1019

4 years 1 month ago #677649 by Scott Klubeck
I just picked up one of these and thought that I could connect my computer directly into this to transfer and access files.  I can only connect via wireless connection.  Is there a way around this via USB-C?

The specs (of a DS1019+) clearly list a USB 3.0 port, along with an ethernet port:

https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS1019+

USB-C isn't mentioned, but eSATA is.

Did you not verify all of this before your purchase?

I have one and you can't plug directly from your computer into the unit to transfer files.  It's a downside if you ask me.  Everything else about this thing is incredible and well worth the bucks.

Assuming this unit is like my Synology unit, it is a NAS or network attached storage unit.  In your shoes I would connect it to your computer using an ethernet cable.  Then you will have a two node network.  It can be used just like your hard drive.

I was going to say the same thing Gary. Though with a lan port connection RJ45 at the rear of the device, this way you can access the devices directly from ones computer. or the Oper would need an adapter going from a USB to USB-C etc or vise versa. Just need to make sure the cable is bidirectional.
