Time management with camera

Anyone else having a tough time setting time aside for getting out and practicing with your camera? During the week, it's tough for me to get out, then on weekends, I find it hard to get free time away from my family.

Curious what others are doing?

I had time to shoot for work, of course, but for fun
I had to wait until the kids grew up enough.

By the time they were 7 and 9, the triangle had no
secrets anymore and they were more than happy to
assist me on jobs and, after the homework were do-
ne, it was the magic on the PP work.

That went on until they were 9 and 11 and then they
could act as 2nd shooters in weekend assignments.
They had the first choice on the cameras and lenses
and understood what approach goes best with their
respective picks.

They were quite good, soaking in rapidly all they had
to learn to be trusted any gear they fancied for week-
end fun. There was only one condition: I had to know
what, and for how long, gear was taken out.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

You have to manage your time no matter the interest. Its tough with the demand of kids, they always come first.

Why so serious?

True, so when are you getting out then?

Right now, I go out anytime I like. My kids are all in their thirties, when they were at home I rarely touched my photo gear. (The wife was the pic taker)

Why so serious?

You got kids? Then, for your sanity, I suggest:

Date night once week. No kids.
Then you and your spouse schedule alone time for each of you, where you can go do whatever you want, without accompaniment, for a set amount of time. Doesn't have to be every week, but make it count, and make it important. Your kids will learn about priorities, and balance, and that they don't come first all the time.

I block off time each week on Friday or Saturday.  However what Gary suggested is sound advice too!
