Using colored smoke grenades in public areas for photo shoots OK?

4 years 1 month ago #678552 by KENT MELTON
I bought some colored smoke grenades that I wanted to try out for some creative photo shoots.  I hope this isn't a dumb question, but can I fire these off in parks as long as no one else is around?

There is no explosion, these things just push out colored smoke.  I don't plan to use where they might interfere with motorist or where others will inhale.  These are supposed to be non toxic if that makes a difference.  But definitely people will see the smoke.

OK to do so?

I'd think if people see smoke they'll be calling 911/fire dept.

(Unless maybe it's around the 4th of July people might assume it's from fireworks, but if it's a lot of smoke someone could think that fireworks caught something on fire.)

But would you get in trouble for lighting it off?

BTW - thank you!

You could. Why not go somewhere delicate sensitivities avoid? Many urban areas would require a permit, no?

Why so serious?

Where are you even finding these?  I've seen some cool portraits with colored smoke in the background.

Contact the local police department.

A friend used smoke grenades for a maternity photo shoot last year.  She called and notified the fire department what she was doing beforehand.  The shots turned out so colorful and artistic.  Have fun with your shoot!

Keep these away from your cloths, or direct contact, the colors will get on your cloths and is a PITA to get off.

I'm talking about the part coming direct out of the canaster.

So I see some people holding them with gloves and others with no gloves.  Do you need gloves to hold these while they are burning?

If you are out in the country, you'll likely be OK.  But still, a quick call to fire dept will likely be appreciated.

Is it possible to get these sort of smoke grenades to look like fog?
