Shelter in place Coronavirus - are we allowed to go out?

4 years 1 month ago #680065 by Roman Omell
Quick question, to help me understand this better.  If there is a shelter in place order, which is aimed to keep people away from one another.  And you want to go photograph, the woods for example.  It's just you driving to a remote location, no engagement with anyone.  You get to the woods, and you are alone.  Is this OK?

I go into the woods nearly every day, though I just walk there. In the heavily infected cities, you'll need to check to see what's "allowed".

I live in a rural area, +/- 10 km from a small city. I go to the
marsh — nobody comes for now — when the weather is fine
to take pictures and, when not, even without the gear.

I go to the super market once a week only
The safest place is where no human was in the past ten days.

But if you have to drive an hour to get to the location, would this be OK as long as no one else is there?

Sure IF those in your household only are with you
or no one else but you, Roman.

It depends, if your area is in lockdown, the "authorities" might not trust you to "social distance".

G'day Roman

Aussies are being asked to 'self-isolate' indoors with family =or= if outdoors, a) limit all excursions into populated areas, and b) to stand fingertip to fingertip apart if with another person ... in other words, about 4ft / 1,5m apart, with no more than 2 people being together. This is similar to the UK advice and the German advice

From our TV news, I have not seen this as being US advice, and from the voice clips from the US, it appears to we Aussies that the US is going to follow Italy and Spain with a "loose" arrangement and hope for the best

For quiet / private excursions with camera, I would expect that you can go into the forest or lake foreshore, but as with anything else, common-sense needs to prevail

I would suggest you -and others here- make your own plans and protect yourselves as best you can

here is a link to the Aus gov't ABC news site to see what we are being advised

Hmmm, on the fence.  I'm thinking if common sense is exercised and by myself, I'll be fine.

I would keep it local, what if you need to get gas?  Or you break down?

Depends on your state. Try your local and/or state health dept. websites, or your local newspaper/TV station websites. My state has a website for it and I imagine others do too.

My state just made it an 'order' instead of guidelines/suggestions to stay in, so it can be enforced if necessary (by law enforcement or health dept.). So people can do what we've already been doing, go out to go to work, buy groceries/food and supplies, etc. Many places like local and regional/national stores and restaurants are offering online ordering and curbside pickup.

Parks are open in my area except for restrooms/concessions and any activites/events were cancelled. It's allowed to take walks keeping a distance of 6 ft. away from other people.

I'd just check your state's current status to make sure before you go out, or check the website for anyplace you plan to go to see if it's still open.
