How to remove step up ring that is stuck on lens?

1 month 4 weeks ago #680361 by Paris Gal
I bought this cheap step up ring on Amazon and now can't get it off one of my lenses.  There isn't much grip on this thing.  I have tried rubber grips from my kitchen to remove, however it's not moving.  Any ideas?

Instead of taking the rings, push them against
your flat hand and turn.

G'day PG

If the worst comes to the worst, use a fine hacksaw blade to put a small nick into the front corner of the ring so that a small screwdriver can then be used to hammer & tap it off. It will leave a 'dent' in the ring, but it will still be usable later and will not damage the lens itself

Lightly tap on it while trying to twist it off.

A pair of lens wrenches should do it. They come in several sizes, but will fit a range of lens and filter diameters. I have this pair in my camera bag and won't be without them. They have saved my day several times. Get the ones to fit your need.

Haven't used my wrenches in about a year, but yesterday I had a UV filter stuck on my back-up camera. Though it was a 52 mm and not 58 mm like my main camera, my wrenches worked on the first try. I don't use them often, but I always have them in my camera bag, ready for such emergencies.
