Could we see camera manufactures focusing more on direct to consumer sales?

I was just reading an article about GoPro cutting back 20% of jobs because of sales drops relating to Covid 19.  It was also mentioned that they would be working on increasing their direct to consumer relationships and cutting out distribution channels to increase profits.

Considering everything that is going on, do you think we'll see more companies following suit?

Could we see camera manufactures focusing more on direct to consumer sales?

Not likely.  They don't want to deal with customer service.   That is what retailers do for a living.

But the manufactures still deal with the tech support.  Retailers just focus on the sales calls and perhaps pre-sales.

That will be when camera sales are so low that they
wouldn't want to share profits with the middle man.

Well I did read sales were down 50% for some of the manufactures last month. We could be on our way to such a ugly day.  6 months ago, I would have not a chance this could happen.  These days, anything is possible.

My guess is you have never worked in the retail industry.

I wouldn't be surprised at what I see these days.

It is so tough to forecast anything these days.  Some companies might be forced to make tough decisions in the upcoming features.

I think camera companies will really need to step up their game to get people to hand over their cash these days.  I think the Z8 and R5 are the ones for 2020 that could do this.
