Photography clubs that have gone online with Zoom meetings?

3 years 10 months ago #683724 by Rick Larin
Have any of you been able to keep up with your photography clubs via Zoom or some alternative online meet up?  Our club is considering it, but wondering what struggles others have experienced or if it turned out as a no show.

Any input you can share?

G'day Rick

Yeah mate - our regional club did a zoom meet a week or so back - it was the monthly comp night and the meeting co-ordinator set it all up for us. We had 20 or so people on the screen as the speaker went thru the images while reading the judge's comments re- each image

For a first time + a widely used and free bit of software - overall it performed very well

Several of our members had connection issues, and sometimes their audio dropped out - but I/we have no way of knowing which end of their zoom conversation the problem was

Overall - I was impressed and we'll be using it lots more
Hope this helps

We used Zoom for our April meeting (it's not a big group) and we were very happy with how it went. We'll be doing the same for May, and then make a call each month.

Two local clubs here held meetings with zoom. They were competition meetings. Everyone sent in their images ahead of time and the judge critiqued each one and picked the winners. I didn't join in but all the emails afterwards were talking about how smoothly everything went. It was a big success.

No, but this is a good idea.  Our club hasn’t done much.  Actually our group hasn’t done squat in terms of keeping in contact with everyone.

G'day mate
We're lucky that our Pres. is an enthusiastic fella who brings the group along with his enthusiasm

Yep, that's what we did.  But then again, there aren't that many people in our club either.  It worked well.  Actually was my first time using Zoom.

Good idea, will pass it on.  Our group hasn’t done nothing, so this could work.

Our Camera Club of Richmond (VA) is using Zoom. We paid for the upgrade so we did not get cut off at 40 minutes. We had 50 members (close to our normal) and had an image evaluation. Very successful.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
