Stolen cameras likely to hit the used market

I was just reading a Leica store was looted up in NYC.  I'm sure there are tons of other camera retailers from around the country that were targets.  Just sharing this, to remind that you'll need to be more cautious buying used camera gear these days.  It might be stolen.

Thank you for sharing this information. Is there a way to tell? I ask cause I have never bought lenses before & was thinking to start with used so I can save money until things get off the ground.

Good question, this could become a mess for used camera buyers.  I know a number of stores got hit in NYC.  Gotta keep an eye out for resources that will help identify.

We were just talking about this earlier.  All those animals ripping through all those businesses had nothing to do with the death of George Floyd, it was all about financial gain.

Before gear got stolen, it was in someone's books.

It will be sold to private hand I think… the risk being
too high if they are going in other books anywhere.
Light is free… capturing it is not!

True and sucks.  A friend 3 years ago I want to say bought a Nikon that turned out to be stolen.  He sent the camera into them for service, and they kept it.  He was pissed, but nothing could be done.

If you're buying in person, it might be worth asking for the original receipt. I know I always keep mine, and if someone is selling a nearly new camera, then they would presumably also have one.

Good to see Apple is locking up all stolen gear so those dirt bags can't do much with it.  Hope the camera companies can do the same.

That would imply…

1, larger bodies to accommodate cell and/or internet connection
2, you'd be willing to pay for it.

Eventually, yes, they couldn't do much with the gear but that will
not bring it back to you!

Yes. The riots had nothing to do with the protests, either. We can blame opportunists and/or subversives, as well as inappropriate action by a number of police officers.

Officers in aa number of locales were given the order to "stand down" and not try to arrest the looters and arsonists. Then in places like New York, the looters were released within 24 hours without having to post bail....

Austin police critically injured two young men (one of whom is a 16 year old child) by shooting them in their heads with “less lethal” rounds, and in one case continued to shoot the medics carrying his body. They shot a known pregnant woman in the stomach, then stormed and abducted her from a medic tent. They maced young children during a peaceful daytime protest.

For those that might asked, all fully documented.

This is bull$hit. It's about time people objected.
