Driving from U.S. to Costa Rica on photography adventure

3 years 10 months ago #687089 by Tony Imaging
I'm feeling so bottled up and need to get out.  I've read horror stories of people traveling on plane, and horrible conditions from airports to on the planes and hotels with quarantine.   So, that got me thinking, why not drive to Costa Rica on a crazy photography adventure?  It's  3382 miles one way from where I'm at.  So this will not be a quick trip, but something that I would plan stops through out Mexico and then of course Costa Rica.

This had me wanting to check in with others here?  Have you ever driven that far south before?  I've read that the only thing I need to be careful of is petty theft and don't violate parking as police have tendencies to take your license plate.

I'm thinking about renting a car for this drive, which I need to look into logistics on this still.  Particularly with out of country insurance.

Any rate, I would love to get some input from you.  Thanks in advance.

I would do it in a beater car, but not something that looks like you have money.  There are some sketchy people in some areas down there.

I was suggested to forget the idea that the trip is the goal
and reach your destination the quickest way possible…
bad company on some roads.

Yeah, I'm kind of with Nikon Shooter.  There has been some bad press regarding some areas of Mexico regarding kidnappings and killings lately.  I would make the run down there a no thrill or at least minamize stops to just larger cities.  OR if you are traveling in larger group.

I would only do with a group of friends.  But then again, I'm a female so don't take too many risks.

I think that would be a fun trip.  I think if you stay on main roads and away from sketchy areas, go in groups, you'll be fine.

One other thing, with Covid, make sure hotels and such are even open along the road you want to take.  Also, what restrictions there might be getting into the country or getting back into USA.

G'day Tony

I'd love to say "come to sunny Australia ... the dollar is always favourable to you, the language is pretty much the same, the roads are beaut, and it is SAFE to travel across the country"

But regrettably - it will have to wait a while :(
