I think it was Minolta with the A1 but I'm not sure. The first DSLR was the Minolta 7D. Then Minolta was later acquired by Sony. I think Olympus however developed the current system camera makers use. There are different variations on that. Some use springs and some don't. It's pretty amazing.

Didn't Canon introduce optical image stabilization back in the mid 90's.  1995 I want to say?

I think Canon was the first with lens stabilization in about the mid 90's. I'm not 100% sure of that though.
