Wearing a Press Vest

Hey guys, I have sold some of my photos to magazines over the years. Would that qualify me to wear one of those orange "Press" vests that you see people wearing?

Access to given events will require a press card and agitated
demonstrations won't. In both cases, having a low profile and
not carrying a full panoply is a better way to go.

It's not to impress, it's to hopefully get safe passage/access to events happening without getting stopped. The vest is something you can recognize from a distance.

I read you, Ben.

All one needs is a press card to access, anything else
will make you a target for one side or the other.

You need to be associated with an actual news outlet.

In my experience in my area for hockey everyone must have team-issued credentials - ticket takers, ushers, front office staff, concession workers, photographers and other media, etc. They may be issued for the season or on a game by game basis. I've had both.

You need a legit reason to be issued team credentials, such as taking pictures for the team, a local media outlet, etc. You'd go through the team/arena PR/media person. For college sports it's the SID, or for a large university the SID for a particular sport.
