Getting a camera for STILLS only - not paying for video?

3 years 9 months ago #689232 by Vahrenkamp
After all these years, my wife finally wants in on photography.  Perhaps this stay at home thing has caused her to come over the dark side.  :woohoo:   But finding a camera for her has been 'interesting' to put it mildly.  She doesn't want to pay for a camera with video because she has no interest in video.  She just wants to take photos.  She can't be the only one.  And while I use both video and photo functions on my camera, I do get her point.  Those that just want a camera to take photos, why should those people have to buy a camera thats price is largely inflated due to the video features built into it?

The only camera I know of — and own — that
doesn't do videos is the D3X.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

All other bodies do… and I feel the same as you do!

You will not find a newer model DSLR body that doesn't support video. Not going to happen.

You might consider finding a used Nikon D700. Full frame sensor (same as the D3S I think... but I could be wrong; somewhere in that vintage), excellent low-light capability, beautiful images. Only 12MP, but that's plenty for a high-resolution 11x14 print.

Also, you don't know that the price is "largely" inflated due to video features. Video will impact design, yes, but the delta may be marginal.

Or just do what the rest of us do: ignore things we don't need.

My sister is one of those people.  She picked up a Nikon Z6 and only cares about taking photos.

Eh, it’s part of the package.  Personally I use both sides.
