Nikon D750 lens suggestions

3 years 9 months ago #690422 by christopher-isaac
I’m hopefully going to be getting a Nikon D750 soon, first full frame, I know the kits usually come with either the 24-85 or the 24-120 but I’m interested in any suggestions for a good all round lens I could get at under £500. Like I said I’m a beginner and really not fixed on any particular type of photography yet, bit of landscape, street, hopefully some portrait and a little macro so any suggestions, I realise I’m looking for something to cover a lot in one lens but I’m only looking for the one lens at the moment. Also and I think I already know the answer to this but I have a sigma 18-35 mm f1.8Dc lens. How would this work on the D750?

Yes, you can use the Sigma lens on the D750, but the image area will be smaller. You can simply put the D750 into DX mode. Or just crop in post.

The 24-120 is a reasonable all-around lens. Its advantage over the 24-85 is its constant aperture. They can be had used for less than $400 on eBay, well within your budget.

That said, you may find that 120mm is not terribly long for a zoom, and that you'll spend most of your time betwee 24 and 80. In which case you might consider finding a used Tamron SP A09 28-75 f/2.8 lens. If you can get a good copy, it's a very sharp lens, and reasonably fast (at least, my copy is). Under $200 on eBay. Also works as a macro, and good for portraits at the 60mm+ end.
