Photographing subjects from a reflections

I've been getting some advice that kind of contradicts each other when trying to photograph subjects from a reflection.  Am I supposed to stop down as far as possible?

Hi Dana,

when taking a subject, you focus on it. When shooting the
subject and the reflective surface, a decision should be ta-
ken: do you want the include the environment in the shot
and to what degree? This is where there is a lot of wiggle
room for artistic intent. Have fun! :P

Yes agree with the above.  Focus on the subject you are trying to photograph, you shouldn't need to stop down unless the exposure calls for it.

I meant that closing down is an opened option
that might work if it fits the artistic intent.

Understood, and I agree, good point.
