How come cameras don't have internal storage?

So I saw this question posted on Facebook 3 days ago, and I meant to save the page so I could revisit and see what the answers were.  To be frank, I forgot where the heck I saw this.  But I was curious on the answers.

OK, so this isn't my question, but I want to know.  Why don't cameras have some level of internal memory?  Some drones do, and it must be a nice to have in case of emergency.  Not to mention, with internal memory, wouldn't this or couldn't this act as some level of speed buffering when writing files?

There have been products designed with that feature. And usually accompanied by an inability to get those files off the camera in any reasonable way. IIRC someone put a microdrive in one camera.

What's the point? Replaceable cards quickly become inexpensive, and expanded the available storage space immensely. Internal storage is limited, increases the cost of the device, and has no real utility.

How much internal memory do you think is appropriate? Rhetorical question, because everyone will have a different answer.

Of course, I'm not one of those people that use a cable to transfer files. I pull the card, pop it into a reader and plug it in. Then I put it back, or put another card into the camera.

Memory that can act as a buffer is completely different from memory that can act as storage. Apples and oranges.

Yes, some drones contain storage, and then you have to move the data out of the device. No thanks.

The next best feature to inner storage is a removable
memory… like a card.

What was the question again?

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Plus these days, that storage would need to be 15-20GB in order to be of any use considering files sizes.   Anything less would be a "what's the point"?
