Using an iPhone to find a frame?

To reduce weight, will you scout a new location with just your iPhone to find the best frame?  Then come back at the right time with your larger camera and gear?

Younger, I was often hired to scout for locations in cinema
productions… and then I did not snob even an Instamatic;
so why not an iPhone? Scouting is scouting.

I have, but not always. Depends on the shot.

I kind of see where you are going with this.   Frankly speaking, I only use my iPhone for family day outings or I don't have my DSLR and need a camera!

Nikon D300 24-70mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8
50mm f1.4 & 50mm f1.8
105mm f2.8

Are you talking about visualization of the shot?  If so, I do every once in a while.   Not much though.  Now I do use my phone to take tons of photos when I don't have my DSLR with me.

Whatever the frame, you are looking for a composition,
a decor, and not much more… one can shoot in any light
conditions — it doesn't even matter if any weird subject
is at that time in the said frame. So anything will go!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I use mine for so much, framing yes.  It can also take and place calls too.  :rofl:
