Light loss with 1.4x vs 1.7x vs 2x teleconverter

Just to clarify, 1.4x and 1.7x teleconverters will loss 1 stop and 2x teleconverter is going to get taxed with 2 full stops right?  

Actually Canon doesn't have a 1.7x, Nikon does.  But if that only losses 1 stop, why hasn't Canon brought to market?

Go with the 1.4x and play it safe

Just remember that a TC will cost you light AND degradation
in terms of image quality.

How come we haven't seen improvements to teleconverter performance over the years?  Manufactures are always improving lens and camera bodies, why no teleconverters?

That begs for a very simple answer.

Because TC's are subject to optical physic laws and these cannot be
twisted in any way.

Is there any work around to this from a technological standpoint?   Like if the teleconverter was built into a lens?  I'm talking from an engineering standpoint, not practical.  Would that eliminate the light loss?

:agree:   Right now today, with current technology we can't bend the physics involved.
