Selling camera gear on ebay?

3 years 6 months ago #698574 by Ontherocks
I hope to make some upgrades to my camera gear in the upcoming months.  However will need to sell off some of my old gear.  I tried selling a lens back in June on Craigslist, however within first two day had 12 scam emails come through from the listing.

Will you use ebay to sell? Aren't the fees there crazy?  To offset these, do you include those into the selling price (and will people pay?) or higher shipping cost?

Ebay sucks IMHO.  Just set up a temp email and sell to only the person that meets in person with cash.  Simple as that and you avoid having to pay Ebay and PayPal

Onthrocks this is why many people I know have moved to using Facebook "Buy and sell" groups.  I'm sure there is at least one in your area.  Back In my hometown there were easily three or four I could join for the area.

:agree:   good point, totally forgot about Facebook Marketplace.  Much better than CL or EB.  More difficult for the scammers.

I'm not really involved in social media except for photo fora.

The few times I had to sell gear was done in the photo clubs
or student groups on my cardex… always in person.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

I have sold $tens of thousands worth of camera gear on Ebay.  it has proven to be a good way to go.  when i decided to abandon film photography I had a ton of stuff that had to go.  Every bit sold at the prices I put on the items.  Same thing when I abandoned Nikon and switched to mirrorless.

I used to use ebay, but haven't in a long time.  Actually I just get an email from them each month with an account summery.  Strange as I've not used in a very long time.

Sorry, I've had such bad luck with eBay recently, I have a tough time recommending them.  Seriously you are better off going with place like CL or forums.

OMG, Ebay has gotten so bad.  Honestly I have nothing positive to say about using it.  Oh wait, I stopped use it long ago.  lol
