Does optimal lens aperture change when using a teleconverter with the lens?

Lets say your optimal aperture for a lens is f/8. If you use a 2X teleconverter, does that optimal aperture change for that lens?

A TC will scrap all your attempts to benefit from any
optimal aperture that you traded in for extra reach.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

There still must be a optimal aperture, is it moved out at the same distance of the loss of light?

100% everything moves forward and then are tossed up in the air.  I have a buddy who is a sports photographer who shoots surfers and kit surfers.  I asked him a question about focal length that he used and teleconverters and I seem to remember him telling me that image sharpness gets messed up when using a teleconverter, which was why he rarely used for important shots where maximum detail is needed.
