Cleaning battery connectors inside camera?

3 years 5 months ago #699933 by Tim Kelley
I think my battery connection is off, when I place battery into camera, nothing happens.  I have to shake camera see power comes on.  Somethings when I take out and replace battery it will turn back on.

This leads me to believe either the battery connection is dirty or is broken in some way.  I'm going to hope it's just dirty.  I have tried cleaning with Qtip, but not seeing any grim on it.  Any cleaner you would recommend for metal contacts in camera?

Contacts start building dirt when fatty stuffs get on them, the
mainly caused being fingerprints.

Contacts inside the camera can't be touched really so using a
hard bristle art brush on the contacts is usually enough to re-
move dust.

Battery contacts are more vulnerable. A hard bristle hand brush
is the first tool to try. If not sufficient, 90+ % alcohol on a swab
applied to one contact at the time will do it.

All this after having made sure that all pins are align properly.

ADDENDUM

I had an airbrush compressor in the studio that is doing it!

We are talking about the connectors IN the camera right?  I thought we shouldn't spray air into the camera?

I talked about an airbrush compressor not a garage one!

In any case, the battery compartment is of a single piece
so to protect the inner electronics from leakage.

I'd just use a q-tip dipped in alcohol

Something a bit more abrasive that can be used is a pencil with an eraser attached. The eraser is pretty good at rubbing off even a little corrosion. Try cleaning it with alcohol and a Q Tip first. If that fails, try the pencil eraser.
