Camera warranty turn arounds so slow?

3 years 3 weeks ago #712992 by Red Tail
I've been waiting on a shutter fix with my D610 for nearly 9 weeks now with Nikon.  Have any of you experienced similar slowness with your manufacture?

I thought turn arounds would be a little quicker, this is annoying.

:agree:   Most likely less working and Covid red tape to deal with

Everything is running so slow these days.  Most likely running on skeleton crew.

Nikon peeps must have heard me complaining.  They just left a message for me today indicating my camera is coming back next week fixed!  :beerbang:

Thanks everyone!

My take is that warranty service is performed on a contract basis with the OEM, whereas these companies also perform out-of-warranty repairs and those pay quicker, and so might be given a higher priority than the warranty work.

In addition, I don't know how this works for other OEMs, but for Sony, the warranty service must bring the camera up to 'as new' condition. So if your only complaint is the shutter, but the case is scratched, not only do they need to replace the shutter, they need to replace the case as well, and this broadens the requirements for what may be difficult-to-find replacement parts. These companies rely on the OEMs for replacement parts, so you might just have been unlucky with your D610.

This, of course is in addition to the many other reasonable explanations that have already been posted.
