Renting out your old camera gear you aren't using?

Have any of you rented out your gear you aren't using?  Was it worth it at the end of the day?

For all intents and purposes, I will lend only to professional colleagues
and only after an ALL and TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY PAPER IS SIGNED.

I don't need the small change and I don't mind helping out but it got me
into bad experiences in the past.

My 21 yr old grand daughter is the only one that gets to use and borrow my photo equipment. She is a very responsible young adult who has worked with me in my studio. I don't and won't, let anyone else use any of it. She will inherit it all someday anyway.

I don’t and won’t even lend my gear out to friends or family.  Let alone renting to strangers!

Doesn't most people have an iPhone or comparable?  Airbnb or those services that rent out peoples cars or RVs always ends up in their stuff getting destroyed over time.  So no way.

I would rather sell that gear than rent it out.

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

This idea has the most wisdom. If one has the need to rent
gear for the income, sell it and avoid all the worries.

Agree, I would just sell it versus renting it

Well that answers that!  I figured it couldn’t hurt to pop this question out there and see what sort of answers come back.

+1 sell now, if you don't use that much and decide to rent it out, the value will drop like a rock when people learn it's been a rental unit.
