Bridge camera advancements

2 years 9 months ago #721300 by Jeff Scott
Have you noticed, it's been a long time since any sort of new bridge camera has come out.  I had read another photographers blog last week that make a good point about zoom cameras, or super -zoom bridge cameras.  I get that the point and shoot market or small camera market is struggling, but when you look at what iPhones can and can't do.  There's a lot a bridge camera can do that iPhones can't.

Do you think we'll ever see new bridge cameras?

G'day Jeff

I have been using superzooms since my first one back in 2003 - following 40+ yrs with film SLRs plus a bevy of expensive lenses. These cameras have come a very long way with their development and refinements, and often some of their features are "tested" there before being incorporated into hi-level dSLRs .... and it also happens in reverse too, whereby the superzooms collect features from the dSLR range of cameras

Like most things in the shops these days, I believe the design side of such cameras has plateaued and future enhancements will be less dramatic than before ~ but they will still be enhancements

I really think that any plateau is a result of the supply chain restrictions due to the pandemic. I think advancements in superzooms will continue, such as better image sensors, better performance, and more features.

As has always been the case, you need to wait for two new upgrades before you see any significant change, but perhaps the plateau has given the people who come up with new stuff time to ponder the possibilities without actually having to come up with something.

G'day mate (TCav)

Yeah - something similar to my line of thought .... a bit like the motor vehicle industry, where next model isn't much different from this model, but wait until the second update and things start to show up as 'new'

I'm doing to disagree and suggest that we have seen the best days for Bridge cameras.  Far to much interest in iPhones and such, technology is only going to strengthen there, leaving consumers satisfied and not shopping for anything else.
