Can Canon R be used as home security camera ?

My neighbor is trying to tell me he's going to be able to use his Canon EOS R camera for his home security camera, I think not.  Who's correct?

Using a photo camera for home surveillance would be very dumb!

1. it could get stolen
2. way too expensive for the purpose

Light is free… capturing it is not!

G'day Ken

The other side of the question is 'continuous use vs movement-actuated use'
The camera itself is not designed for continuous use - more a series of short videos that later are edited into one

Security stuff needs continuous -or- movement activated, yes ... but a good lens + adequate pixels would still be cheaper that a dSLR

Hope this helps

  huh?  Why?  I would just use a Blink camera for a fraction of the cost, and it's made for that.  Then you don't tie up your camera for something it wasn't made for.

We have Blink cameras in my home.  $109 I want to say, and I got 2 cameras that record and send to cloud automatically.  I wouldn't even consider using and tying up my main camera for something like this.

Can I use my 18 wheeler to go get milk and bagels at the corner?
