Do you under expose photos from camera?

I’ve heard a few people saying that they under expose photos from their camera.  I’m curious why when you can do the same in post?

The powers of post processing are very impressive but only
under the condition of properly exposed recordings. PP will
not do miracles on burnt areas.

The whole thing is to protect the whites at all costs… that is
what I practice and teach.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

+1 agree, I'm usually always underexposed as well from camera.

Depends on what I'm shooting, but most of the time, I like to underexpose a tad, I just like how it looks.

Can't you do the same with a polarized filter?

It all has to do with the light meter and yes with what ever is
set in front of the lens… even NDs.

Only time that I intentionally underexpose is when I'm photographing something with a lot of green in it.

Underexposing a slight bit will assure you get the most data in your RAW image. You can recover a lot of data from the dark side but much less from the light side.
For the same reason, I try to not crop images in camera too tight. The extra area allows for better composition in PP and is a big factor where you do galley wrap canvas prints.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Hello,
If you are shooting JPEG, then the general rule is to underexpose because if you lose the highlights in a JPEG, these highlights are simply lost, unrecoverable
