Long exposure in helicopter?

1 year 10 months ago #738188 by Sawyer
I have an opportunity to photograph a city skyline, during sunset coming up in nearly 2 weeks.  To get a longer exposure, can this be done?  I was thinking a gimbal of some sort, that would work right?

A helicopter ride is not the smooth ride that you are expecting. There are all kinds of vibrations going on during a helicopter flight. I've had 2 helicopter rides and I equate the flight vibrations to a Jeep ride on a moderately smooth dirt road at 50 mph.

That's going to be a bumpy ride, you might need a gimbal.

Forget the gimbal.

Get a Steadicam.

It may work out better to shoot bracketed images and merge them using a program that aligns the images.
I don't think that a gimbal will help. A steadycam will still be vibrating during the shot.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
