Octopad hold a small DSLR on nature trail?

2 months 1 week ago #738447 by Brody Kross
I've been wanting to photograph small critters on a nature trail, my tripod is too tall.  But I have this Octopad, but the ball head is a bit iffy, at least for my DSLR.  Will this work for low to the ground if I swap out the head?

You can find plenty of ball heads on Amazon for cheap, that will be nice upgrades.  I want to say the one I'm using I paid $20 for.  Granted this is a no name, but it works!   But yes, Octopad will work fine, especially if you are just mounting to the top of ball head that is mounted directly on top.

I ditched the ball head that came with this thing and using one I got from Manfrotto.  While I have not put or used with larger cameras, I'm sure you will be fine.  These things are very stable if you have something low to the base.

OP looks like you have your answer.  You mind me asking how are you all cleaning your Octopad?  Mine has some melted chocolate on it and I would like to clean it, however don't want to ruin it.  Thank you

Set it out on the trail, and the chocolate will get cleaned off. You might get some interesting up close shots of the critters doing the cleaning too.

Can that base be used in water?

Won't that mold if you get it wet?  That base will keep some water in it right?
