GoPro battery is swollen inside camera!

1 year 10 months ago #739017 by Colorado Mike
My GoPro 10 has a battery swollen up inside of it and it won't come out!  The small plastic tab broke off and now I have no means of being able to pull on the battery.  Any thoughts on how to get this out?

I had the camera on my Octopad recording cars driving by and this was the second battery I had used.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a job for a qualified camera repair technician.

Isn't that what's stuck?

Actually, you might drill a pilot hole in the battery for a wood screw to grab with a pair of pliers, and maybe work the battery out. Perhaps warming the camera a bit with a heat gun or hair dryer might expand it just enough to expedite working the battery out. Be cautious of toxic battery chemicals. Good luck!

Sounds like it may have been an aftermarket battery (although some OEM batteries suffer this as well) that was left in the unsed camera too long. Good luck. I had a similar scenario with a point-and-shoot camera/battery. I was lucky and got it out. Whatever, don't force it. The camera repair tech may be needed. I think I used a pair of needle-nosed pliers...

Remove the door of the camera, and hit the camera up against a counter top.  These cameras are shock resistant, tapping it against a hard surface might cause the battery to pop out.

Was this an older battery?

Never had that happen, was the battery under warranty?
