How to remove wrinkle from canvas print?

1 year 9 months ago #740840 by KZAM
I was going to ask this question in the other canvas storage thread here, but figured it would be best just to set up a new thread here.  So after reading the other thread about storying canvas prints, it reminded me that I have some prints in storage that I haven't looked at in some time.  Turns out I want to hang one of these up, but the problem is, something was leaning up against my pring and left a dent on it.  How do I remove the wrinkle/dent from the canvas?

Thank you

If you have a hand held steamer, steaming the back side while the canvas is supported vertically should work well too. Whenever I "steam", backdrops, clothing, etc. I always use distilled water, so as not to get any mineral deposits on the fabric when it dries.

Distilled water is available at grocery stores, sold in gallon jugs where they sell bottled water. I frequently need to steam folding wrinkles out of my backdrops, or the model's dresses. Having a gallon of distilled water and a hand held steamer makes this fast and easy. I usually teach them how and then let them do it. If clothing, never do this or allow them to do it while the garment is being worn. The steam will burn them. Certain people don't have a clue.

Holding a hair dryer away from it and running the hot air over the crack should do the trick as well.

Lay the canvas face down on a clean thick cotton towel. Hold a steam iron above the back of the canvas about an inch or so. Lightly release steam onto the dent or wrinkle until it's wet. Wipe off excess water, then let it dry upright.

So will that keep the wrinkles out long?

Dampen the back of the canvas where the dent is. It will smoothen out once it dries. You can use a spray bottle, a damp rag or sponge.
