Why 6K and 8K video?

Correct me if I'm wrong, TVs and such on wide scope of things don't display higher than 4K right?  So why all the cameras pushing 6K and 8K video?

G'day mate

It's not always increased pixels in use - I believe that it also comes down to bit-size and therefore better colour responses
Maybe TCav might know more

Huge file sizes at very little benefit to the viewer. I'm happy with 4K and even lower frames per second, usually 30, unless fast movement is expecting to be recorded. Viewing quality isn't that much better to justify 6K and 8K yet, since most monitors and TVs available can't display much better than 4K today, and I doubt that my old eyes could even see an improvement over 4K, except in a test pattern.
