Why did Samsung pull out of the mirrorless/DSLR market?

It's easy to forget that Samsung was in the DSLR/mirrorless space.  I just bought a new phone and so amazed with the tech in these things.  Samsung really has it figured out.  But what puzzles me, why did they pull out of the mirrorless space?  Their  NX-1 camera got great reviews, Samsung certain has the bucks and isn't hurting for cash.  So why did they pull out in 2017?

Samsung partnered with Pentax for years, often releasing identical cameras in all respects except the name on the outside. Pentax floundered, being bought by Hoya, then Ricoh, so Samsung lost its partner and the market for its larger format image sensors. Samsung finally just threw in the towel.

Profit margins much greater for them in phone market that they were already leader in.  Plus they saw drastic changes coming to camera market, many they themselves were behind.

So when it comes to phones, is Apple larger than Samsung?

Apple and Samsung keep swapping positions in the market share tally.

Apple is larger, but that's because their profit is higher, not necessarily because they sell more phones.

Interesting, still curious why Samsung didn't pursue on their own?  They had the deep pockets, and the means of coming up with better technology?

They probably saw greater market potential in the smartphone market.
