In-Camera Cropping?

Back in the day, a few cameras had in-camera cropping, why don't newer cameras have this?

This is one area where i do not need help.
I do my cropping when I take the shot.
The only time when I did crop in post, was sport. But then there was no time to look at shots to do in camera cropping. First you choose your 10 best shots from the 100-200taken and crop ten only shots.

Where do you see a need for it?

If I do crop, it's always done in post. Then I have the original, plus the cropped version. This gives me the ability to crop it a different way if I should ever want to. When I post photos online for any reason, they are always cropped, so I have the original to prove where the photo came from and that I took the photo. I would never crop a photo in the camera, even if the camera has the capability.

G'day SG

While the 2 posts above refer to "us" and our post-image processing at home, I can see plenty of occasions where "others" out there might enjoy in-camera cropping and resizing before using the WiFi features in the camera to send the pic to someone else.

I know from my Panny cameras that when in-camera cropping or resizing is chosen, the original image is -not- overwritten, so I can see the time / place where someone maybe on holidays and away from home might crop and resize before posting the image to another family member. Then after returning home the original image can be dealt with in the traditional manner

If your camera will do that, great.

I have never tried it and don't use WIFI most of the time, unless I have some reason NOT to tether to my laptop. I also don't use WIFI to send photos to anyone while still on the shoot. It's always done from the laptop on my studio network. It's just too slow when I do use WIFI from the camera to PC, forcing me to tether or just save everything in the memory card in the camera until back in the studio. WIFI for me is about 1/3 as fast as the tether speed. The last time that I used WIFI it was taking 15-25 seconds per shot to transfer to my laptop when using my Canon 90D camera. Tethering is usually 4-6 seconds.

G'day Charley

All good .... -but- if you're travelling, living out of a suitcase, happen to be in a motel room and want to send one or two images to family / friends, then sometimes these small / otherwise insignificant features can come in handy. Maybe!

Not needed, when I crop, I'll either zoom in when I take the shot or in post.

OK, I don't travel anymore, so I don't need that, but I can understand your reason.
I guess I traveled too much for too many years and have little interest in doing it again. There are a few places that I would like to see, but the difficulty of going there and back at my age no longer interests me.

I wouldn't crop in camera, its so hard to see my shot on the small screen, I'd rather have better control from within the computer.

I don't crop till in post, for reasons as already stated, if I need to change, then I can change in post.

I'll adjust when needed in post.  In camera restricts any possible changes I can see better on larger screen.

I'll stick to cropping in post.  That way if I ever need to go back, I have all the data to work with.
