A Photo Related "Funny", That I Thought You Would All Enjoy.

Some time back last year I bought a focusing projection lens to allow projecting patterns and images on my backdrops. My studio strobes were only 300 watt/second at the time, so when I tried to use the lens on one of them there was too much light loss through the lens for my need, even with the strobe set to full power. So I needed a much bigger studio strobe for this, but how much bigger? Then I found a Godox DP1000 ///, and at 1000 watt/second, and decided that this light should do the job quite well. So I bought one. I may have over bought this time. A "much bigger hammer" isn't always the best decision, but it does the job very well.

The new studio strobe light arrived the same day that our local photo club was to meet that evening. So after unboxing it and firing it a few times in my studio, and finding that it would definitely be bright enough to fit my need, I decided to take both the light and the lens over to my club meeting for a quick "show and tell" at the meeting. That night the temperatures were quite mild, so we were meeting at the outside tables and it was quite dark by the time I was ready to show what my new strobe and lens could do. So I set it up and looked around, deciding that a blank end wall of a store building across the roadway and behind some low trees about 100' away would make a good target for the light. So, with nobody in that area of the building and with no cars on the roadway, I pointed the strobe and lens just above those low trees at the wall of the building, set the strobe for full power, and fired it.

From behind the trees, a startled voice began yelling "@#$%&, Go-l-l-l-ly !!!!!!!" " What just happened ????" "I think I'm blind !!!" He must have been looking straight at us when I fired the strobe. "Ooops !!" We decided not to shoot it again, and I put it back in the car. He must have recovered, and since he didn't come looking for who did it to him, we decided to continue the remainder of the meeting as if nothing had happened. They all agreed (with a chuckle) that it sure was bright though.
