Telling a potential client NO on business with them?

With the world becoming so sensitive it seems.  How are you telling a potential client you don't want to business with them or simply 'NO'?

If I didn't want to do business with someone, they wouldn't be a potential client - of mine, anyway.

Usually, "No, thank you." works for me.

I don't take on clients who are lawyers, who generally want an explanation. I tell them that, in my experience, lawyers often find creative ways of not paying their bills. They're always satisfied with that answer, and I never hear from them again.

I also don't take on clients who are purveyors of nonsense.

I once was called to a doctor's office. When I arrived, I discovered that the "doctor" was an acupuncturist. I did everything for him that I could during that visit, but when I was finished, I told them never to call me again. I never billed them and never heard from them again.

... which was fine with me.

You make little sense and provide little value to the OP question.

OP - when someone comes to you and you don't know if you want the business yet or not, it's hard to judge the working chemistry by looks, so don't listen to this Razky person.

For me, if I determine they might not vib with me, I'll let them know my schedule is blocked during the time they are after and help them find an alternative.

Sometimes you can sense when there are personality or other things that just aren't right when a customer comes to talk to you. I was in that position quite a few times and for the first few, I just continued my negotiation and service with them. In each instance, it turned bad. I now react on my senses, and find a way to politely say "No", then turn and walk away. This isn't a guarantee that the job will go smoothly, but when it "doesn't feel right" from the beginning, it has always turned bad for me, no matter how hard I have tried to make it right.
